HISTORY

The first regulation on the service in the area of labour and employment in Bosnia-Herzegovina was passed in 1900.  The order on labour exchange offices was issued on April, 4th 1909; hence is that year considered the founding year of Employment services in Bosnia-Herzegovina.  The orders on establishment of an agency for employees, unemployed workers and on worker benefits were issued on April, 13th 1919.  The Labour Bureau was founded in Sarajevo that year.  The building in which the Labour and Employment Agency of Bosnia-Herzegovina is located was built in 1927.

The name of service after WWII:

  • Labour Exchange 1945 – 1946.
  • Employment Service in the framework of Trade Unions 1946 – 1948.
  • Labour Force Administration 1948 – 1952.
  • Labour Brokerage Bureau 1952 – 1960.
  • Employment Institute 1960 – 1965.
  • Community of Employing Affairs or Employment Institutes 1965 – 1967.
  • Basic and regional Self-managed Interest Communities (SIZ) and  Union of  Self-managed Interest Communities 1975 -1985.
  • SIZ for employment BiH 1985-1990.
  • Employment Institute of BiH as from 01. 10. 1990.
  • Labour and Employment Agency of Bosnia-Herzegovina as from 01. 08. 2003.
