REGISTERED UNEMPLOYMENT

According to data of the Federal Employment Service, Employment Service of Republika Srpska and Employment Service of the Brčko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina, 493,765 persons were registered as unemployed in Bosnia and Herzegovina on 31 May 2008, which represents a drop of 6,073 persons or 1.21% compared to the situation on 30 April 2008. 

UNEMPLOYMENT OF WOMEN

Women make up 49.51% (244,457) in the overall number of job seekers.  Compared to the previous month, the number of registered unemployed women is lower by 1,488 or 0.61%.  There are 54.50% (133,241) first-time job-seeking women in the total number of registered unemployed women.

REGISTERED UNEMPLOYMENT BY QUALIFICATIONS

With regards to qualificational structure of registered unemployment in BiH on 31 May 2008, the largest share was made of persons with third educational level (skilled labour – 173,451 or 35.13%) and unskilled labour (170,684 or 34.57%).  Persons with higher educational attainment (university degree and higher non-university education) constitute 3.66% (18,084) in the overall registered unemployment.

MATERIAL AND LEGAL PROTECTION OF THE UNEMPLOYED

In line with laws in effect, there were 7,843 recipients of pecuniary compensation in May 2008 (1.59% of overall registered unemployment).
